Interview Excerpts
Q. How much do you think that the present MBA
entrance exams like CAT/ MAT is efficient in
evaluating the student’s potential to be an MBA?A. Parameters are important but they cannot be adjudged as final instruments in evaluating the potential of MBA aspirants. History has seen and experienced many business tycoons who will remain eternal examples in the business world and whose potential were not ever evaluated by any such systems rather these agencies were not even been in existence. It goes without saying that though the business world advocates such system but these they cannot be considered as absolute. There have been examples where the CAT/MAT top scorers miserably fail with the corporates. Q. Over the years, it has been noticed that the engineering students score better than others in CAT. What is your take on that? A. One of the reasons could be that engineering students are better in number analysis, in calculation and system management but business is not just game of numbers and mechanical jargons. People who succeed are sincere, innovative, passionate and ethical in approach. They should possess entrepreneurial skill and an attitude to service the humankind and build up economy. Q. There are many students who miss the chance of getting admission in the IIMs by a few points. What is your advice to them? A. There is always an element of success hidden in every failure and an element of failure hidden in every success. The pain and suffering of failure to be taken as a determination that I would never like to experience it again. So, it is important never to give up and also never keep all your eggs in one basket. Everything is not IIMs, there are other options too. Q. There are many B Schools who starts two sessions in a year. One session starts in July and the other in February? How can a February admission benefit the students? A. Admission in February give the students an edge over their counterparts in July as the students who take admission in February, get back to back study without loosing time and rhythm, this also brightens their placement opportunity. Q. Please give some advice to the MBA aspirants in regards to how to choose the right B School for themselves? A. They should choose B Schools with utmost, sincerity and with lot of self reflection. They should thoroughly research it and not blindly follow the opinion leaders. The right school is where they can connect to and grow. They should not be carried away by the glamour or outward appearance of the school but should evaluate the exposure they will receive and the suitability for their future corporate endeavor and life to come. |
