LEARNING ENTREPRENEURSHIP @ DBS
Entrepreneurship is taken as solely the establishment
of new businesses, but there is much more to
it than knowing how to start up a new company.
Entrepreneurship can be extended to already established
businesses as well, that need assistance in keeping sales
going, finding new markets, advertising and generally
staying successful in today’s highly competitive markets.

CURRENT AFFAIRS & NEWS ANALYSIS

Japan is one of the strongest amongst the world powers
that has proved to be a survivor time and again. Being located at a
seismic zone, it is always at a risk of natural calamities such as earth
quake. The country is well equipped with technologies and earth quake
resistant infrastructure. However, the recent earthquakes followed by
the series of blasts in the nuclear reactors have made their mightiest
technologies and disaster management techniques bite the dust.
As a repercussion of the earthquake the country has shifted more than
two metres away from the neighbouring Korean peninsula. According to
the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASSI), the Korean
peninsula moved east up to five centimetres (two inches) while Japan
shifted some 2.4 metres (7.92 feet) east.
Immediately after the biggest earthquake in 140 years, a 10-meter tsunami
wave hit the coast of Japan, causing severe destruction. The tsunami
has swept away everything that lay in its path - houses, streets, vehicles,
bridges, farm lands making everything undistinguishable from rubble.
Large-scale evacuations had been ordered to avoid loss of life. This
tsunami is so powerful that warnings have been issued to Colombia and
Peru as well. The aftershocks of the 8.9-magnitude earthquake are continued
to be felt, with smaller earthquakes repeatedly striking the country.
The epicenter of this earthquake was about 240 miles away from Tokyo.
After this event, reports of a possible tsunami hitting the Japanese
coast were coming in. The Japanese Metrological Agency too issued tsunami
warnings for the entire
pacific coast, and people were directed to evacuate. Earlier to this,
more earthquakes of lesser magnitude (7.2 and 6.3) were experienced
in the islands of Honshu. The countries under possible danger have been
identified as: Russia, Taiwan, the Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New
Guinea, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador,
Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, Honduras, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia and
Peru. |
